First day working with my co-conspirator on the one of the work-like things that have shown up (let's call it Project X). Most of the day seemed to involve downloading and installing various things to try to get a Windows development environment up and running. On the one hand, the official Visual Studio products seem stunningly expensive, particularly given that I'm used to developing on various Unix platforms.
